The Legacy Society is United Way's endowment
program that grew out of the Planned Giving & Endowment Program that
started in 1984. The mission of the Legacy Society is to
accumulate enough funds to allow all of the operational expenses of
United Way to be paid from the earnings on those assets. Once the goal,
$4 million, is achieved, all money raised in the annual campaigns will
go to fund programs in south Wood & Adams Counties supported by United
Way.
Every gift to the Legacy Society is important; each contribution helps
to make an impact on our community’s future. However, those who
contribute $1,000 or more to the Legacy Society become members of the
Legacy Guild. Guild members will be recognized with engraved stones for
years to come on the United Way sign.
United Way‘s Legacy Society, along with George W. Mead II, Chairman of
the Mead Witter Foundation, unveiled its Legacy Guild Sign for the first
time at the annual Thank You Night for volunteers held on Dec. 8th,
2005. As new donors become eligible in the future, a stone with their
name will be added to the sign. This new sign will forever be part of
the United Way of Inner Wisconsin.
